A boy or girl - is there a way to influence the gender of your baby?

Certainly there are many spectacular rumours circulating about how you can influence the sex of your baby. But on our page you will only find well-researched scientific theories about the topic that might actually help you to conceive a baby of your desired gender.

The moment of sex

The most convincing theory claims that there is a relation between the day of you having sex with your partner and the time of ovulation. Studies of the Harvard scientists Lendran B. Shettls and David M. have revealed that spermatozoa with an x-chromosome, which are responsible for the conception of a girl, live longer than the sperms bearing a y-chromosome, which are responsible for the conception of a boy. It is true that the sperms with a y-chromosome travel faster, but nonetheless they live no longer than one day.

Further studies have proven that, in an average ejaculation, there are more sperms bearing a y-chromosome than a x-chromosome. It must be noted that this surplus becomes reduced as soon as the sperms enter the acid vaginal milieu - here the x-sperms live longer than the y-sperms.

The closer the onset of ovulation, the more alkaline the vaginal secretion becomes, making fertilization with a y-sperm (a boy) more probable. In other words: if you have intercourse two or three days before ovulation the vaginal milieu is acid, which is advantageous for the conception of a girl. If you have sex immediately before ovulation, or directly on the day of your ovulation, the chances are good that your baby will be a boy.

If you want to conceive a girl, then you should have intercourse 2-4 days before ovulation. In this case, the more viable x-sperms which produce a girl can wait in the fallopian tube for the ovocyte that will be fertilized.

The orgasm

Even the female orgasm influences the gender of your baby: if the woman has her orgasm before the man does, than the vaginal milieu will be alkaline and the conception of a boy is more probable. If the woman does not have an orgasm while having sex the conception of a girl is more probable.

Frequency of intercourse

If you want your baby to be a boy, it is important that you and your partner abstain from intercourse seven days before the optimal conception period in order to increase the concentration of y-sperms. High temperatures are disadvantageous for the conception of a boy: the y-sperms are smaller and less tough so that men should avoid hot showers etc. Furthermore they should avoid wearing tight jeans.

According to the scientist Shettle, daily intercourse favours the conception of a girl. He advises couples to have sex from the last day of menstruation until two or four days before the ovulation. The concentration of y-sperms in the ejaculate is thereby decreased.

Position during sex

The a-tergo position is said to be ideal for the conception of a boy: the man penetrates into the woman from behind so that the ejaculate is close to the cervix.

If you want your baby to be a girl you should have sex in the missionary position. In this position it takes more time for the seminal fluid to reach the cervix so that the sperms travel longer in the vagina where they find an acid surrounding, which is advantageous for the conception of a girl.

The caloric intake has effects

Recently it has been shown by British scientists in a study with 740 women that eating habits influence conception. It is namely more likely that you will conceive a boy if you increase calorie intake before conception. If you are on a reduced-calorie diet you are more likely to conceive a girl. The scientist Fiona Mathew and her team claim that a difference of just 180 calories a day can be decisive - this corresponds to the calorific value of one banana.

Relationship to your partner

Fewer and fewer boys are being born in the developed industrial countries of the world. Scientists have researched the reasons for this and have found out that, along with eating habits, the relationship between the woman and the man together with their family situation also has some influence on the baby’s gender. The American scientist Karen Norberg has noted that a stable relationship favours the conception of a boy. Norberg argues that it is one of the main reasons for persons in a relationship having more sex, thus changing the hormonal balance of the woman. It appears that women who already have children are more likely to conceive a boy when they are in a relationship. The reasons might be grounded in evolution: the “breeding” of boys was always more effort-intensive. On the other hand, there is a greater probability that the mother will conceive a girl if she is already a single mother.

Life circumstances of the woman

Additionally, British scientists are of the opinion that the attitude a woman has to life influences the baby’s gender. Evolutionary biologists have noticed that, in times of crisis, more girls are born than boys. The scientists explain that in evolutional history, women were more important for species survival than men, as they were the ones giving birth to children and educating them. But nowadays it might be the psychological aspects that are essential: the anthropologist Sarah Jones claims that if a woman believes in a long life and if she is optimistic towards her health and her surroundings, then it is more likely that she will give birth to a boy. Statistically seen, women who believe that their life circumstances are negative and who have a lot of stress in their daily lives are more likely to conceive a girl. This assumption was proven by many studies that were done in third-world countries: in times of malnourishment and poverty women gave birth to more girls than boys.

Lunar calendar

The lunar calendar could have an affect on many areas of our daily lives. Some doctors such as Eugen Jonas even maintain that the gender of a baby can be influenced by the changing lunar phases. In certain lunar calendars you can find the days that are supposedly especially advantageous for conceiving a boy, and respectively a girl. But it remains unestablished whether or not this method helps.

Smoking as an influencing factor

Various studies have revealed that smoking has an effect on the sex of the baby. It seems that women who smoke are more likely to give birth to a boy. Still we want to make it very clear that smoking and nicotine have a harmful effect on your pregnancy and moreover inhibit fertility. Therefore it is more of a hindrance than a help in influencing the gender of your unborn child.

To sum up finally, it must be said that the best method of determining the gender of a baby remains through establishing the exact time of ovulation – this method has a probability of 80-85%. But most women are not able to detect the moment of their ovulation. In only 10-15% of all cases do some women notice a slight pain in their abdomen when the follicle bursts.

An ovulation test can help you to determine your fertile days and to predict your ovulation. In other words: OvuQuick can help you to manipulate the gender of your child!
